The application of a website involves website setup and development. Setup is mainly consultation, design and layout. This then needs to be put into practise through coding, acceptance and installation.
Website setup covers consultation, site concepts, selection of artwork, layout design and site navigation. Website development covers the purchase of a domain name, the selection of a web hosting provider, coding in HTML, CSS, PHP, Javascript with database design using MySQL, the installation of files on the server with page structures designed to allow discovery and ranking by search engines.
Websites range from the simple to the complex. Website pages that involve graphics, information content and possibly a simple contact form are less time consuming to produce than those with complex coding. Websites that have layers of authorised access, databases, booking systems, shopping carts and payment by credit cards require a different level of complexity. Care neeeds to taken to ensure security from unauthorised users and to prevent data loss.
So, a simple website could cost $350 for the first page and $100 each for additional pages (including a contact form page with validated entries). A five page website could thus cost around $750. Also, if required, there could be charges of around $20 for domain name registration and $120 per year for website hosting.
There could be further quoted charges of $100 per hour for additional work carried out at your request and with your agreement. These charges would be for:
- the provision of additional images and the editing of textual content
- the re-creation of images or graphics where the original material is not suitable for website publication
- the manual entry of text from images or faxes
- further consultations, meetings, phone calls and emails
- changes to design and layout
- additional work outside the agreed scope of the project
- training
- travelling
eCommerce solutions or booking systems with their levels of complexity would require a quote, with the amount depending upon your requirements.
Websites have, as part of the package, maintenance for one year after the date of installation. Maintenance includes minor revisions of text such as contact details, grammar and spelling changes and the fixing of warranty issues.
